The Great Lies
The Great Lies — Revised for The Grace Anchored Journey
There are lies we’ve all heard — subtle, quiet ones — that creep into our thoughts and settle into our hearts if we let them. They tell us we’re not enough, that we don’t belong, that we’ll be exposed if anyone sees the real us.
For years, I didn’t have a name for what I felt. Now I know it’s often called imposter syndrome — the persistent feeling of being a fraud, even when your experience and accomplishments say otherwise. Statistically, it affects women more than men, but the truth is, anyone can struggle with it.
For me, it shows up in both personal and professional moments:
When I’m recognized as a leader but secretly feel inadequate.
When I lead worship but wonder how God can use me when I struggle to spend quiet time with Him.
When I succeed at work but wonder when people will “find out” I’m not enough.
These thoughts are exhausting. They play on repeat, telling me:
Lie #1: You’re a fraud.
Lie #2: You’re not good enough.
Lie #3: You’ve messed up too badly to represent Christ.
But here’s the thing — they are all lies. And they all focus on my ability, my effort, and my power.
⚓ The Truth That Sets Us Free
Truth #1 — I Am Not a Fraud
It is not by my might, but by His Spirit that I am able to do anything (Zechariah 4:6). God is the one working in me and through me for His good purpose (Philippians 2:13).
Truth #2 — I Am Chosen and Loved
Jesus reminds us in John 15:16: “You did not choose Me but I chose you and appointed you that you would go and bear fruit…” I am chosen by the King of Kings — not because of my perfection, but because of His love (Romans 5:8, 1 John 4:17–19).
Truth #3 — I Am Forgiven and Redeemed
When I confess, He is faithful to forgive and purify me from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9). My past mistakes are covered by the blood of Christ (1 Peter 1:18–19).
🌱 Living Anchored in Truth
My biggest stumbling block is when I try to walk in my own strength, forgetting that I am a beloved, chosen vessel. God hasn’t called me to perfection — He’s called me to be teachable, moldable, and available for His purposes.
Matthew 28:18–20 reminds us of our mission:
“All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations…”
Every empty seat at church, every woman still searching for encouragement, represents someone who needs us to walk in our calling — not hide in fear or self-doubt.
Friend, if these lies are playing in your head too, hold them up to God’s Word. Are they true, lovely, praiseworthy (Philippians 4:8)? If not, call them what they are — lies — and replace them with truth. You are chosen. You are equipped. You are loved by the Most High King.
